Chicago is my home. To me, it is a micorcosm of the world. Yet i know that many, and I mean a great majority of people dont have that viewpoint of Chicago. In fact, the things that stick with people from all over is our murders and our thieves, particularly in public office. I think that 3 out of our last 5 governors did prison time, and we have a few alderman that have, are and will be doing time also. Those are our local pols that cant get enough rewards from a 120k part time job so they shake down businesses and people when they need anything to do with that ward.

Yet, the majority of public servants are honest hard working people I think.

 

We are a city of neighborhhods, cultures and peoples. Broad shoulders hard working people made this city what it is and that is home to millions. As one of those millions, it is very personal and it is my home. At the heart of every neighborhood are the people that make this city special. Chicago has hundreds of ethnic pockets within its neighborhoods, places that immigrants were greeted by their own when they arrived.

 Real estate is an asset we can use as a city to bolster our people and neighborhoods. It is a source of revenue, wealth and community ties. It feeds our tax base and is home to our citizens.
